Music Monday–TV Theme Songs! January 28, 2008

It’s Music Monday over at The Secret Life of Kat. I missed week 1 one when my computer temporarily died on me (the Computer Help Desk Guy revived it and didn’t even charge me!). This week’s theme is favorite TV Show Theme Songs, which was no question for me. But I’m also listening to an awesome interview/session right now on NPR with Iron & Wine, so I’m doing two things today. Enjoy!

More good stuff: This interview with Iron & Wine is great. Not so much the interview part of it necessarily, but the music. He starts off by playing my favorite two Iron & Wine songs– “Boy with a Coin” and “Sodom, South Georgia.” The last song he plays is great too.  I think one song in the middle somewhere has a little language in it, so if that bothers you, you might want to fast forward a bit. Also, Sam Beam has the craziest beard! haha

Seven Facts About Me
1. Places. I spent a week in July on an Alaskan cruise to Juneau, Sitka and Skagway. I’d love to spend a summer living there, giving some kind of tour, enjoying the rain and cold. It’s my favorite kind of weather, and it was the most spectacular place I’ve ever seen.

2. Some favorites. Color: shades of blue, Book: Chaim Potok’s The Chosen, Flower: Tulips, Poet: E.E. Cummings, Sports team: tie! The Atlanta Braves and (of course) The Florida Gators, Bible verse: “If I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”

3. Music. Right now, I’m madly in love with Iron and Wine’s “The Shepherd’s Dog”. Such an amazing album. I loved “Our Endless Numbered Days,” but I usually had to be in the right mood for it. I am ALWAYS in the mood for this more recent album.

4. The Near Future. I have pretty severe scoliosis, and so I’ll be spending a good chunk of this summer recovering from spinal fusion surgery, in which they’ll use a bunch of rods and screws to straighten out my spine. I’m scared.

5. The (not-so) Far Future. Right now, my best friend the Blue Jay goes to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. My OTHER best friend the Seminole will be finishing her undergrad stuff at FSU (I know, I know…I forgive her, you can too) next spring and plans to go to grad school in either Baltimore or D.C. I want to do Teach for America, and D.C. is one of the cities I was thinking about…so we’re sort of vaguely planning to all live together in D.C. within the next few years.

6. Obsession. Books. Books. Books. I love to write and read. I can’t really explain the feeling I get when I’m holding a book, journal, or stack of paper in my hands, but it’s really satisfying and comforting. I own more books than I know what to do with, at the moment. I’m slowly but surely working my way through them. Right now I’m reading Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis. I just started it to today…I’ll let you know how it goes.

7. Freakish Fact. I used to have braces and my teeth were nice and straight, but over the past year or so my teeth must have been doing some strange things, because I’ve recently discovered that I can’t bite properly anymore. I can’t touch my top and bottom teeth in the front together. This makes biting into a sandwich very tricky, trust me.
