I don’t think anyone comes by here, but… December 24, 2007
Merry Christmas!!
On the 26th I’m off to New York for a few days, so I’ll be back after that!
Merry Christmas!!
On the 26th I’m off to New York for a few days, so I’ll be back after that!
First of all, I realized that I left Feist’s “The Reminder” off of my Favorite Music of 2007 List. That was a huge, gigantic mistake! haha
But that’s not really why I’m posting.
Today is my cousin Nicole’s 21st birthday, and she’s making me (the younger cousin, no less haha) feel old! I remember the day she got her driver’s license. I thought she was so cool and thought I was real cool sitting shotgun as we drove around playing New Found Glory (oh my). We stood at the Hess station near her neighborhood and couldn’t figure out how to pump gas…we were forgetting to flip up that lever thing haha.
I remember being in elementary school and spending weekends at Nicole’s house. We would lounge around by the pool with cucumber slices over our eyes, and I used to reluctantly let her curl my hair when really, that was way too fancy for me.
Today, she’s’ a 21 year-old hair-dresser. Funny how that works.
There is a bug in my apartment somewhere.
I can hear it buzzing.
I think it’s on top of the cabinets, or on top of this weird ledge/shelf thing in the kitchen…maybe on top of the fluorescent light…
I don’t like bugs…
Since the year’s coming to a close (already?!?!), Amazon and NPR have both put out their “Best Music of 2007″ list. NPR has a new list of the year’s top 10 albums everyday until Christmas. Obviously a lot of stuff repeats, but there’s a lot of variety too. As awesome as this sounds…it’s really a problem.
All year long, I’ve been basically satisfied with my free downloads from Ruckus and listening to the music on my computer. But now my impatience is getting to me and I’m dying to burn some CDs for my car and for mixes and I just can’t do it with Ruckus. This is just starting to drive me a little crazy and making me want to rush out and buy all these albums in lieu of paying my rent.
My mom told me to e-mail her a Christmas list, and I had to seriously scale back the lists of albums I wanted. I told her she was getting the short list…I don’t think she believed me haha. I think 2007 was the Year of Good Music. Lots of my favorite artists put out new albums this year, and I’ve also come across a ton of new stuff that I LOVE.
Here are 10 of my favorites. Maybe I’ll elaborate on them later when I don’t have an exam in a few hours.
Stars “In Our Bedroom After the War”
Wilco “Sky Blue Sky”
Rilo Kiley “Under the Blacklight”
Angles and Airwaves “I-Empire” (disclaimer on this one: totally surprised. I have never like Blink 182 or any of their side projects, except for maybe that one Boxcar Racer song that everybody likes. I didn’t expect to like this album at all, but I really do!)
Iron and Wine “The Shepherd’s Dog”
Okkervil River “The Stage Names”
Jimmy Eat World “Chase this Light”
Peter Bjorn and John “Writer’s Block”
Band of Horses “Cease to Begin”
Arcade Fire “Neon Bible”
Only one more exam! I’m not really sure how prepared I am, but I don’t really care. That’s not a good sign, I’m sure. Then a presentation tomorrow and I am DONE and can start getting ready to head home.
I LOVE TIM TEBOW.
How could you not? Honestly now.
Jessie, Melanie and Joelle were having their annual Tacky Sweater Christmas Party tonight, but we all spent the first hour crowded around the television watching the presentation and waiting for the news we were desperately hoping for. We love this guy. Not just as a football player, not just as a Gator, but as a…well, guy.
His brother Peter is in Crusade along with a lot of us there, so we cheered when he was speaking during one of the Tebow highlight reels. But when they opened the envelope and read his name, people flew off the couches, screamed, cheered, clapped, cried. I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face. No one deserves this like he does. I really can’t wait to see what the next two years will hold. I’m pulling for a three-peat.
Congratulations, Timmy. The Gator Nation loves you.
Well, it’s official.
Today was the last day of class this semester.
Good riddance, that’s what I say.
Since Sunday, I’ve spent more time at Library West than I have in my own apartment. The extended hours and I have been good friends this past week, but I am not sad to say good-bye.
Until May, 4:00am. Until May.
This semester has been a crazy one for me–a roller coaster ride, definitely. There have been very high highs and I feel like I’ve really grown a lot (I’ll write more on that over vacation, hopefully), but there have also been extreme lows including relationships issues and health scares for two of my best friends (who, thank God, are both fine now). Besides that, I never anticipated being so busy this semester. Every day, I runrunrun and have barely had any time to even process what has been going on.
I have one more exam on Monday, a presentation on Tuesday and then I am DONE and could not more be excited for a vacation. I’m really looking forward to spending time with Josh, my family, friends who will be in town AND!!! I get to go to New York at Christmas time which will be amazing. I’m also really looking forward to sleeping, reading and processing the craziness that has been this semester.
That all being said, right now I’m off to work on my scrapbook and watch Ricky get Auf’d from Project Runway. Last week’s episode was fun because I LOVE the Barber twins, although being from Tampa, of course Ronde is my favorite.
So, now that this crazy semester is over I’m going to try to update this more. Then maybe I’ll start telling people about it haha. We’ll see.
