What’s “enough” for me? October 5, 2007
These are my notes from Crusade last night. I just wanted to get them somewhere where I could easily access them. I’ll maybe elaborate on this later.
Luke 18:18
- this man was wealthy, young (Matt) and a religious leader…he had considerable power and a lot going for Him, and he is drawn to Jesus (Mark) and recognizes that there is something he himself lacks (Matt 19)
- Jesus asks questions within his frame of reference regarding the law
- Jesus asks him to sell his possessions because He recognizes the issue in this man’s life–the man is trying to do things on his own and live eternal life rather than life with Jesus. He wants to do it on his own rather than accepting Jesus’ grace. And it is his love of money and his love of his life on earth that is keeping him from Jesus
**What is it that you are holding onto that keeps Jesus from being enough?
- All Jesus wanted from this man was to be enough and for the man to follow Him.
Luke 19:1-10
- Zacchaeus, too, recognized something compelling and interesting in Jesus, so he puts an awful lot of effort into getting to a place to see Him
- The rich young ruler in Ch. 18 wanted to know what he could do to get what he wanted (eternal life)…Zacchaeus knew that Jesus could be enough and wanted to know what to do for Him. What can I give up for God?

- **Jesus is not about the wealth and possessions of these men. He is interested in their hearts, what they think they need, and why He is not enough.
- He recognizes what they are holding onto, holding so tight until their knuckles are white, and He is saying “Why?? Let go!
Jesus isn’t saying “You have no needs. Don’t worry about anything. Stand there and don’t eat or drink anything.” He is saying “I am ENOUGH. Do you trust me with those needs? Do you believe that I can fulfill them? Are you trusting in who I created you to be, or are you looking elsewhere?”
